Chocolate Storm Kyle

Okay...it is really Tropical Storm Kyle (now a Hurricane), but Kyle got so excited when he saw his name all over the T.V. the other day that he heard me say "Chocolate Storm Kyle" instead of "Tropical Storm Kyle". He ran around yelling "Daddy, there is a chocolate storm named Kyle". I can't imagine what he thought it was - some sort of chocolate mecca....mmmm chocolate.

Damn It, It's Back

So we had pretty much gotten off the profanity, until tonight when I burned my hand on the oven and said "Damn it", pretty loudly...actually I am impressed that is all I said. Kyle comes running to the kitchen "Mommy, did you say DAMN IT?" followed by "Why did you say DAMN IT?" I explained to him that I burnt my hand and he was immediately more interested in my boo-boo so I let it go...

As we were getting Kyle ready for bed, he followed Brad in to our room, took one look down the hall and realizing I had left his bathroom light on said "DAMN IT, Mommy you left the bathroom light on". He turned it off and then promptly continued following Brad. So, I thought I might take this opportunity as a learning experience about words that are not nice and sometimes mommy's (mostly) and daddy's say things you shouldn't say. It pretty much went like this:

Me: Kyle we need to talk about how sometimes mommy's and daddy's say words that aren't nice and kids shouldn't say.
Kyle: Like DAMN IT?
Me: Yes, like that. And mommy and daddy should try harder not to say words that aren't nice, and you should try hard not say words that are not nice.
Kyle: Like DAMN IT, you shouldn't say not nice words like DAMN IT?
Me: Yes, thats right we should pick something else to say.
Kyle: Like shoot.
Me: Yes, shoot, that is a good one, mommy will say shoot from now on and so can you.
Kyle: Because if we say DAMN IT will people not want to play with us?
Me: Well people might think it is not a nice thing to say.
Kyle: What if people say DAMN IT to us while we are playing...then I will say DAMN IT because they are not nice?
(Keep in mind Brad is behind Kyle...directly in my line of sight...and laughing his head off at this point)
Me (really trying to keep it together and not use the word): Well, we still shouldn't say it even if others say it to us...because it is still not a nice word.
Kyle: Well I will still think it...

That is when I lost it altogether...two steps back...DAMN IT

Fire Expo

Saturday definitely had a theme. We started out with a birthday party for one of Kyle's classmates at the local firehouse. It was pretty cool (even for the parents). We got to listen to a safety talk and tour the firehouse and see where the firefighters live including seeing the fire pole. Then the kids got to climb in the fire truck and one of the fire fighters put on all the gear (including the mask) so the kids could see him and touch all the equipment and hopefully not be frightened in a real emergency.

When we got home we headed up to our local Fire Expo. The fire fighter training facility is up the street from us and they run a free expo every year where they do demonstrations and bring in firetrucks for the kids to ride and climb on. The S.W.A.T team is there along with several rescue units including a Dive rescue team, paramedics, and several local fire departments including the airport fire unit and the huge ladder truck from downtown Annapolis. The demos are cool and it is neat to see everything they have.

Here is a quick slide show of some of the stuff we saw:

Friday Fun Day

The new camera arrived and just in time for a really great Friday. It was in the low 70's and too much of a great day to not go to the park.

First picture with the new camera:

Love the twisty slide:

Enjoying a swing:

Helllllooooooo down there:

Where Will the Squirrel's Live?

For anyone who has ever been to our house you know that we had the largest pine tree in the world (okay maybe just on the block) in our back-yard. Every time there was a storm it made me a nervous wreck. You could see it swaying from the skylight in our bathroom. It was definitely destined to be struck by lightning or to fall over surely cutting our house in half. So it was time to have it taken down (whilst Kyle and I were safely away from the house). We were telling Kyle how when he got home from school the tree would be gone and he looked at me as serious as could be and said "Where will the squirrel's live?". I was a little taken aback because I had forgotten about the squirrel nest in the tree (oh yeah and I didn't really care where they lived as long as it wasn't in our yard). Somehow I thought pretty quickly and said the tree guys would climb the tree and tell the squirrels to move out and they would pack up and go to one of the other trees in our back yard. Kyle seemed very satisfied with this answer and it seems that the squirrels are residing nicely in their new accommodations (preferably in another yard).

For the record...there are no pictures of the tree coming down or the aftermath (the really large logs in our front yard) because the new camera had not yet arrived. Brad reports that it was pretty awesome and one guy spent two hours up the in tree cutting down the branches and trunk. I for one was glad I was not around.

Now for something else to worry about.....

As Promised, Rocking it Out

Kyle is totally into hopping on top of the fireplace (or stage as he calls it) and playing his guitar and dancing. He is quite the little performer and really gets into it.

And yes, those are Superman pajamas - cape included:

Damn it, Shoot!

The camera is broken. The last picture taken on it was a picture of me with the Wii Guitar in my hand "rocking out". Those were my specific instructions from Kyle as he took the picture..."Mommy, rock out and I will take your picture". Then I heard the camera drop when he went to put it upstairs...I didn't think much of it until I went to take a picture of him in his Superman costume and the lens wouldn't come out...then it wouldn't go back in...then Brad read on the internet that if you bang it the lens might open or close (whichever way it is broken...apparently this is a known issue with our type of camera). Anyway, the banging worked occasionally, but I refuse to bang my camera like a mad woman everytime I am trying to take picture and it wasn't very reliable anyway. Don't worry, the new camera is on its way from Amazon.com as we speak.

So you will have to wait for the "rock-it out" picture and the Superman picture (which by the way is the cutest thing ever).

Damn it!

Friday Conversations:
Kyle: Damn it, Mommy we forgot to get cards at Target today.
Me: What did you say?
Kyle: We forgot to get cards when we went to Target.

Sunday Conversations:
Kyle: Damn it, shoot I spilled water on me
Me: Honey, just say shoot not damn it
Kyle: Damn it shoot...damn it shoot...damn it shoot (laughing)

I think I will just go back to ignoring it...at least he is using it correctly.
