There Was An Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe

During music class the other day at school, the teacher was teaching nursery rhymes and they were listening to "The Little Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe". Joking with the kids she asked if they would like to live in a shoe and they all said "noooo" and she said it would be kind of stinky and they all said "yeah stinky ewwww" because shoes are stinky. Apparently, Kyle paused for a moment and said loudly "Socks can be stinky too". Everyone laughed...at least that is all he said.

Well, Actually Mommy...

Kyle has a pretty good grasp on the English language and continues to crack me up with his choice of words - especially when asking for something or not wanting to do something I have asked him to do.

Most famously heard:
Well, actually Mommy we do eat Lucky Charms for lunch
Usually we don't wash our hands after going potty
Don't you worry about me Mommy
Actually we don't have to say excuse me for little burps

On an unrelated note, Kyle had to punish Monkey tonight. Apparently Monkey was not listening very good and Kyle said he was naughty and had to go to the naughty chair. He told Monkey to sit there and not get out of the chair until he said so.

Don't you worry about Monkey - he got himself "calmed down" and was able to come back on the couch to watch a Little People movie before bed.

I wonder where he gets this stuff from?

The Children's Museum

On Sunday, we went to the Chesapeake Childrens Museum in Annapolis. If you have never been I recommend it - Natalie and Kyle had a great time playing with turtles, looking at snakes, frogs, and sharks and taking turns piloting a boat. Natalie especially liked playing dress up and Kyle was a big fan of talking on the phone and typing on the typewriter. It was a nice diversion from the outside cold and the same old - same old at our house. The kids had a blast together and we went to lunch together afterwards where Natalie ate some of everyones lunch (Daddy's soup, Mommy's soup, her sandwich, her yogurt, some bread, and a scone) and Kyle ate everything you put in front of him (his toasted cheese, his yogurt, Mommy's apple, a cookie and the rest of Natalie's scone).

See the turtles

Natalie, can I have a turn being captain?

Cheerleader or Grandma?

Dancing a little jig

Quite the musical trio

Uncle Chris, you do know I have a blog, don't you?

Always have orange juice

Just when you think you have it down, you don't.

Kyle and I were sitting on the floor watching Sesame Street and having a really nice time. We were talking about the show and laughing and trying to find Ernie in "Journey to Ernie" when I suggested we might be more comfortable on the couch. As we started to move, I innocently said "Kyle, I am going to get some juice, would you like some?" and he replied "Yes mommy I would". I went into the kitchen and poured two cups of fruit juice. Kyle was not long behind and noticed that I had poured fruit juice and not orange juice. He told me he didn't like fruit juice and wanted orange juice (important note for later: he doesn't really drink orange juice that much and I think I can count on one hand how many times he has asked for it). Well, we didn't have orange juice. Clearly this was not the answer Kyle was looking for...a full on meltdown ensued. He ran to the refrigerator and threw open the door screaming and crying...I tried to explain in my calm voice that I didn't get orange juice at the store and that I would get some that afternoon after I dropped him off for school. Again, not the right answer - oh how I failed him. He ran to the door between the garage and kitchen and opened it and tried to go out (to get his own orange juice?). I had to lock the door and finally just went back into the family room while he flailed about on the kitchen floor about orange juice. I wondered how long this might go on but surprisingly, when the Elmo's world song started to play on the TV all became right with the world again. He joined me on the couch (as if nothing happened) for the rest of Sesame Street and asked if he could have the fruit juice...which he drank...in its entirity and asked for more.

When he got home from school he asked me if I went to Safeway, I told him yes and he opened the refrigerator door. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was checking to see if I bought orange juice.

The orange juice is still unopened, but it is there, providing some level of comfort to my 2 1/2 year old.

20 minutes of fun

This is where Kyle spent 20 minutes playing this morning. He took all his stuffed animals and put them in the bottom. Then he grabbed some essentials - magnestix, magna doodle, and a small pail with crayons and a party favor in it and proceeded to just sit in there and play. Works for me.

Anpanman

What the heck is Anpanman?

He is one of the most popular Japanese anime cartoon series.

Anpanman is the main character and here is his description from Wikipedia:

He is the main character of the anime, whose head is a bun made by Jam Ojisan. His name comes from the fact that he is a man with a head made of bread that is filled with bean jam called an anpan. His weakness is water or anything that makes his head dirty. He regains his health and strength when Jam Ojisan bakes him a new head and it is placed on his shoulders. Anpanman's damaged head, with Xs in his eyes, flies off his shoulders once a new baked head lands. He was created when a shooting star landed in Jam Ojisan's oven while he was baking.

So what does this have to do with anything? Good question - well Kyle got a flying Anpanman for Christmas from my sister-in-law's parents (they live in Japan). He loves this thing and always wants to see him fly....yes I said he flies...around our kitchen...attached to a string...which is attached to my ceiling now. Oh yeah and he has a crazy propeller attached to the back of him and if you get too close he may take a portion of your face out. It really is hilarious to just watch this thing go around and around - and like I said Kyle loves it.

Here he is just hanging around in my kitchen:

Please note scary propeller on the back - currently not spinning:

This is Anpanman in action (kinda scary huh?):

What Did You Say?

Kyle's favorite question is: "What did you say?".

He mostly asks it when you have asked him to do something he doesn't want to do or if you have said something you really didn't want him to hear. Sometimes he will even take your chin in his hand and gently turn your face towards him and say "What did you say mommy?"

It's Not Going Very Well...

The Redskins made it to the playoffs, so we had a special afternoon/evening in front of the big TV. There were football snacks and it is very exciting to eat dinner while watching TV. This game is driving everyone to drink. It started looking up for a while...then back to the heavy drinking.

A terrible loss but we are used to disappointment - I guess there is always next season.

Saturday Gym Fun

Saturdays are Little Gym days. Tuesdays used to be Little Gym days until Kyle started school so now we go every (other) Saturday morning. He loves to swing and jump and climb. Today in a completely brilliant move they gave rackets to the kids to hit balloons with - fortunately there were no incidents.

Sometimes Kyle just likes to lay there...and do nothing (can't we do that at home?).

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

One of Kyle's favorite toys is his GeoTrax train set. I highly recommend it. He can run the controllers and put the tracks together by himself...he loves it. And he got two new track sets for Christmas so now it is even more fun. Of course the downside is that now our basement, which was supposed to be the adults playroom, has turned into Grand Central station.

Daddy, I don't think that piece goes there.

I want cookies

I want cookies...

NOW!!!!

Please note his resourceful use of his stool. No matter how high you put something out of his reach he will go and get his stool and try to reach it. I applaud his effort.
